Common Dog Diseases and How to Spot Them

Let's admit it. Whether we like to say it out loud or not, most of us consider our dogs to be a part of our family. Many of us treat them like our babies and even talk to them. We bath them, pick up their poop, walk them and play with them. We also take care of their health by taking to them to the vet when there is any sign of a disease.

However, there are many times when we miss the signs of a disease until it gets too bad. In this post, we will discuss what some of the common doggy diseases area and how we as pet parents can identify them.

Common Dog Diseases

Worms

There are so many different types of worms that can infest the intestines of your pooches. While they are all bad, some like hookworms can prove to be fatal to dogs especially little puppies. Some of the common symptoms that your dog has worms include -

  • Blood in stool
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Vomiting
  • Dryness of the coat

Ear Infection

This is one of the most common infections that dogs have. In fact, a majority of pet owners claim to have a pet that has suffered from this problem. This problem can be caused by bacteria, ear mites or even hair grown in the ear canal. Some common symptoms that your dog has an ear infection are -

  • Problem with balance
  • Tilting of the head
  • Redness of the ear canal
  • Constant scratching
  • Rapid eye movement

Attack of the Fleas

One of the mortal enemies of dogs is fleas. They make our furry friend’s life miserable. Many dogs can easily pick this problem up and it can soon escalate into an infestation of epic proportions. Some of the symptoms of this problem are -
  • Loss of hair
  • Biting of the skin
  • Tapeworms
  • Hot spots
  • Allergic dermatitis

Diarrhea

Last but not least, its diarrhea. One of the messiest and most disgusting of all doggy diseases. If your dog has this problem, you would definitely need to call a dog poop clean up service to haul that poop away. Some of the (obvious) symptoms of this disease are -
  • Loose watery stools
  • Dark bloody stools (in severe cases)
  • Loss of appetite
  • General tiredness
  • Fever (in a few cases)

I hope that these tips would help you understand your dog’s health better and care for your pets in a proactive manner.
